Families in 10 low-income Wisconsin households successfully purchased their first homes this summer, despite the challenging conditions of today’s housing market. Movin’ Out provided down payment assistance funding and HUD-certified counseling to help make the purchases possible.

The Jasen’s adult son, Kyle, lived in the wheelchair-accessible house with his roommates for several years. After his recent passing, the Jasen’s wanted to make sure that Kyle’s housemates could remain in their home. Thanks to their vision and generosity, Movin’ Out will be able to fulfill their wish that “the house will serve people with disabilities for many years to come.”

As we start to face climate change realities and the climate disruptions that that will bring, it’s even more important for our organization from an environmental justice perspective to include [solar energy systems] in our buildings,” said Kathryne Auerback, Executive Director of Movin’ Out, Inc.

“We know the long-term impact of [high-quality, early child care], and what a difference that can make in people’s lives in the long term. It’s the same level of impact for having a safe, quality, affordable, stable place to live,” Auerback says. “And so the ripple effect of this project is really almost unlimited.”
Both Movin’ Out and Red Caboose work to make their services available across income levels, and Auerback said that dedication to equity makes the partnership a natural fit.

District 14 Alder Sheri Carter echoed Evers enthusiasm, commenting on the “excitement in seeing this major development for our community well underway.” She added that the City is making progress on the grocery store selection.
We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of our beloved friend and colleague, Andre' Brown. Andre' is not only Movin’ Out’s longest serving team member, having worked with the organization since May 2, 2000, he was the inspiration for the organization’s founding. Andre's life has impacted the many thousands of people that Movin' Out has served. The incredibly significant social innovation of truly integrated community living is his legacy. Our deepest sympathy to Andre's friends and family. He will be greatly missed.

The Ed Erwin Memorial Award is given to an individual who believes in and exemplifies the philosophy that Ed shared with us all during his lifetime.
