Sarah Became a Homeowner With Help from Movin' Out

Sarah applied to Movin’ Out with the hope of reaching her dream of home ownership. She was already pre-approved at UW Credit Union and had an accepted offer to purchase a home in Madison.

Connecting People in Need with Available Resources

Rebecca, a member of Movin’ Out’s team of HUD-certified housing counselors, worked with Sarah to get her approved for City of Madison HOME funds. These funds are used for down payment assistance and are paid back with shared appreciation when the house is sold. With the help of Movin’ Out, Sarah had enough money to purchase her home.

Accessible Modifications Change Everything

Sarah was involved in an ATV accident a few years before she decided to pursue her dream of home ownership. This accident, unfortunately, left her paralyzed from the waist down. Because Sarah now requires a wheelchair, she also had to modify her home completely to make it work for her. After purchasing her home, work on the accessibility modifications started. Just one month later she was able to move in.

Teamwork Makes a Dream Possible

Sarah lives in a beautiful neighborhood, surrounded by nice neighbors who were very welcoming when she arrived. Sarah couldn’t be more appreciative to the Credit Union, her realtor, and Movin’ Out for helping her reach her life-long dream of becoming a home owner!
